These treads satisfy both requirements; they make the steps safer while preserving the old timber stairs.
The only drawback to adding any kind of tread to your stairs is that it adds another cleaning task to your to-do list. The treads trap dirt and need to be washed and vaccumed. That is, however, a tiny price to pay to ensure that you, your family, friends, and pets are not damaged.
There is adhesive or stick to these treads. I have discovered that before placing these on the step, wipe it down and allow to dry if damp and then I must peel off a tiny plastic sheet from the back.
